DJN Ventures today announced its participation in a €1.7 million pre-seed funding round for Currentt, a Dutch technology startup that has developed an innovative and cyber-secure energy management system. The capital injection marks the breakthrough for the nationwide rollout of the Currentt Navigator – a local, cyber-secure and sustainability-focused energy management system. Currentt won the Best Innovation Award 2025 with it.
The investment comes at a time when grid congestion, the end of net metering and cyber threats are putting pressure on the energy market — and aligns well with the growing demand for smart, local solutions. The capital injection comes from experienced investors and entrepreneurs with expertise in cybersecurity, B2B hardware and software, energy and upscaling.
Local, secure and efficient
The Current Navigator, which can be installed in a meter cupboard / utility cabinet, was developed entirely in the Netherlands and enables businesses and households to manage their energy locally, securely and efficiently in order to save costs and reduce the load on the grid. The system automatically coordinates generation, use and storage, controls devices such as solar panels, charging stations, batteries and heat pumps, and thus minimizes feed-back to the grid. All energy management is local, without the cloud, which guarantees maximum cybersecurity and stability. The system is also brand-independent and takes dynamic energy prices into account.
Great urgency
There is a pressing need to bring this product to market. The Dutch electricity grid is straining under the pressure, and upgrading it is expected to cost 200 billion euro. Meanwhile, more than 12,000 companies are on the waiting list for a connection, while others are unable to expand or carry out their sustainability plans due to grid congestion.
Consumers are paying feed-in tariffs, and the net metering scheme will expire on 1 January 2027. At present, households use only 30 percent of the solar power they generate.
CEO Currentt: “We are bringing back simplicity”
Koen Mulders, CEO of Current: “With the Currentt Navigator, we are bringing simplicity to the energy transition — one clear system, always the lowest bill and maximum use of your own sustainable electricity. This investment enables us to make an impact at scale — towards a more sustainable society.”
Joost Hoppenbrouwers, Managing Partner at DJN Ventures, commented on the investment: “We are incredibly impressed by the Currentt team and their vision. They have developed a crucial solution to the growing energy challenges in the Netherlands and beyond. The Currentt Navigator's focus on local, secure energy management is not just innovative, it's essential for a stable and sustainable energy future. We are confident that Currentt will play a key role in tackling some of the big challenges our society is facing when it comes to sustainable and reliable energy management and are excited to support them on their journey.”
